The Cal Poly diving team placed 12th out of 13 teams at the UC Los Angeles Bruin Diving Invitational Jan. 12 to 14. The Mustangs faced strong competitors such as Stanford, University of Hawaii and UC Berkeley.
Freshman diver Noah McKinley had the best performance of all Cal Poly divers, finishing 15th in the men’s 3m championship final with a score of 489.75 and also taking 16th place during the men’s 1m championship final.
Sophomore diver Riley Saufley placed 17th in the men’s 1m championship and men’s 3m championship. Sophomore diver Carter Jewel took home the 18th spot behind Saufley in the men’s 3m final.
Freshman diver Kiara Lyle and sophomore diver Mackenzie Kemei placed 51st and 54th respectively in the women’s 1m quarterfinals but were beat by higher scorers in the final round.
Lyle also scored 205.05 points in the women’s 3m championship quarterfinals for 39th place and recorded 115.65 points (49th place) during the women’s platform preliminary, but did not make the finals.
No diver qualified for the men’s or women’s platform finals.
The swimming and diving teams both travel to Santa Barbara for another meet in the blue-green rivalry Jan. 27.
