The third annual Mustang Mile 5K race took place on Wednesday. Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) partnered with Aware Awake Alive and the campus community to put on the event, complete with live music, food and awareness booths.
Participants were encouraged to dress up in crazy costumes to run, walk or dance their way to the finish line.
“How often can you run in a pizza outfit for 3 miles?” said industrial engineering senior Brent Astrosky.
Cal Poly President Jeffrey Armstrong walked the race with his wife and dog. This year, dogs were allowed to participate in the 5K.
“Mustang Mile is a great way for students to get active, support the community and promote Aware Awake Alive,” said Gage McGinnis, ASI events musical entertainment assistant and business administration senior.
Participants were awarded prizes for the best race times and costumes.
Water and aid stations were placed throughout the course to keep participants hydrated.
Participants enjoyed the band Shoot the Mariner as they ran past Business (building 3).
Runners were met with cheers at the finish line.
Woodstock’s Pizza had a booth with pepperoni and cheese pizza.
A photo station was provided by ASI.
Peers Understanding Listening Supporting Educating group, PULSE, had a booth to promote healthy lifestyle choices.
