Another mountain lion sighting occurred on campus Sunday morning, marking the third similar sighting this month, though it could not be verified.
University Police issued a safety alert to students on Sunday after a mountain lion was spotted behind the Aliso building in Poly Canyon Village. According to the alert, California Fish and Game Wardens are responding to the situation, and students should attempt to stay away from the area until further notice.
This is the third reported sighting since May 2, when a mountain lion was spotted on the outskirts of campus near Stenner Creek Road. According to a University Police Department dispatcher, it is most likely the same lion. It was also spotted near Gypsum in Poly Canyon Village on Saturday.
According to the latest safety alert, the lion may be looking for water because of the heat, which is bringing it closer to developed areas.
UPD urges students to be aware when hiking in the area, and to alert authorities immediately if they spot another mountain lion. Students should also be on the lookout for other wildlife, such as rattlesnakes and bears, which are also prone to coming into the area when it is hot.
