Mott Athletics Center received a makeover this summer, enhancing the experience of both players and spectators. Many upgrades have been installed, including a new competition floor, video board and scoreboard, LED courtside signage tables and improved courtside seating.
The $750,000 needed for the operation was privately raised, allowing the renovations to begin in mid-July. The new competition floor was completed on Aug. 18.
The most noticeable change to the floor is the presence of a large mustang, dominating the middle third of the court. New “Big West Conference” and “Cal Poly Mustangs” logos also appear along the sides and corners of the court.
Two video boards have also been added. With one on each side of the building above the scoreboards, the 22-by-17 foot boards will offer in-game highlights. The scoreboards below them will also be new, eliminating the need to know which lightbulbs no longer work to know the score.
LED signage alongside the court will provide enhanced advertising. Three of the LED tables will lie between the team’s benches, while the fourth will lie at mid-court on the opposite side.
In the past two years, Cal Poly Athletics has privately fundraised more than $1.75 million. Continued improvements to Cal Poly sports facilities are sure to follow.
