Morgan Miller scored twice for the second game in a row to lead the Cal Poly women’s soccer team to a 4-1 win at UC Riverside on Sunday afternoon.
The first goal came from 15 yards out in the seventh minute on a cross from senior Ashley Vallis, and the second, a header giving the Mustangs a 2-0 lead, came in the 24th on a cross by senior midfielder Melissa Woo.
Whitney Sisler extended the lead to 3-0 in the 49th minute on an assist from Monica Hemenez.
After Ashley Parks got UC Riverside (5-7-1, 0-2 Big West Conference) on the board in the 57th minute, Vallis completed the scoring 17 minutes later on a Carissa Voegele pass.
Cal Poly (7-6, 2-0 BWC), which had a 13-4 shots-on-goal advantage, hosts Cal State Northridge at 1 p.m. Oct. 12.
Cal Poly’s Robert Foy won two singles matches and played a part in two doubles wins to lead six members of the Cal Poly men’s tennis team at Fresno State’s 10-team Bulldog Classic on Sunday.
In the singles’ B draw, the junior topped Oregon’s Sho Higuchi in the first round 6-3, 7-6, and Santa Clara’s Kenzo Hirakawa-Wong 6-4, 6-4 before falling to San Diego State’s Tim Shulz Van Endert 6-3, 6-3.
In the doubles’ A draw, Foy and sophomore Alexander Sonesson dispatched UC Irvine’s Khunpol Issara and Zac Tsai 8-5 and their own teammates, freshman Brian McPhee and senior Robert Zacks 8-4 before losing to Cal’s Geoff Chizever and Pedro Zerbini 9-8.
Cal Poly will next play at the ITA SoCal Regionals in Malibu from Oct. 17 to 22.
