On a Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles, the Cal Poly men’s tennis team came away with a decisive victory over Loyola Marymount. After an early loss in the first doubles matchup of the dual meet, the No. 58 Mustangs (3-4) scored the next six points to secure their second win away from home this season.
The dominant duo of Cal Poly juniors Ben Donovan and Corey Pang won their top-seeded doubles match, improving to a 4-1 record in dual meets this season. The third-seeded doubles match proved to be the most tightly contested of the day, with the Mustangs’ team of sophomores Karl Enander and Dan Cardiff pulling off the 7-6 victory after a double-digit deciding point.
Cal Poly dominated the singles portion against the Lions, tallying five victories in six matches. Donovan and sophomore Axel Damiens collected their team-leading seventh singles victories of the year.
Pang and freshman Josh Ortlip also picked up individual wins for the Mustangs on Sunday.
The match against LMU was the first of three consecutive road contests for Cal Poly, with two matches in Texas up next weekend. Cal Poly will play No. 2 TCU in Fort Worth on Saturday and No. 51 SMU in Dallas on Sunday.
