Officers from the University Police Department had the library surrounded Thursday afternoon after receiving a call around 4 p.m. that a suspicious man was engaging in lewd acts.
Five police officers were stationed around the building, watching the entrances and exits, but the suspect was not found. UPD Chief Bill Watton said the police would continue their search, but have very few leads on the suspect.
Watton estimated that a situation like this occurs two to three times per year and in many cases, like this one, the offenders are older men.
“We try to keep an eye on that,” Watton said. “We encourage people to call us if they see someone suspicious around.”
