Editor's note: This is the e-mail that was sent out to all Cal Poly students from Vice President of Student Affairs Cornel Morton regarding Mardi Gras.
Dear Students:
Most likely you have already heard about the City of San Luis Obispo's efforts to curtail public Mardi Gras celebrations in the community. Cal Poly supports the City's plans to maintain peace in our neighborhoods again this year.
The vast majority of Cal Poly students heeded the City's call for a safe, peaceful Mardi Gras weekend in 2005. Now, the City and Cal Poly are asking for your help once again. Please stay safe and avoid large crowds. Discourage friends from other towns from coming here that weekend. Also, take an interest in the safety of fellow students. You may be in a position to take actions that protect others from harm.
Your responsible behavior during Mardi Gras 2005 showed everyone that Cal Poly students care for this community, and for the safety of their own neighborhoods. We urge you to demonstrate that care, concern and responsible citizenship again this year.

Thank you,
Cornel N. Morton
