Break out the Birkenstocks, ripped skinny jeans, Polaroids and man-buns — KCPR will host a benefit show Saturday at SLO Brew.
“KCPR is a non-profit,” communications senior Haley Brown, who works as KCPR disc jockey and promotions and pledge coordinator for the benefit show, said. “And we are hoping to bring in a little extra dough for new equipment and new projects for the studio.”
KCPR Benefit Show is a part of KCPR’s annual pledge drive, but this is the first time in nine years KCPR has held its benefit show at SLO Brew, business administration senior and KCPR general manager Parker Glenn said.
“The pledge drive is opportunity for listeners to show their interest and support for the station,” Glenn said. “We rely on their support to help us grow the opportunities we provide students.”
This year, they are primarily raising money to keep their open mic nights alive and for remote broadcasting equipment to help air concerts.
The benefit show, which will be the radio station’s largest fundraiser of the year, includes three local bands: Shannon and the Clams, Swimmers and Dog Party.
“The bands have been really great and have been working really hard,” Brown said. “And SLO Brew has been so generous letting us use their space.”
The May 16 show will begin at 7:30 p.m., is open to all ages and costs $12 to attend.
