Hello again.
It’s been a crazy week — most classes have begun getting into midterms, and time seems to be flying by. Can you believe it’s already getting into the fifth week of school? Because I know I sure can’t! Life is hectic and crazy right now, and I’m positive I’m not the only person out there who thinks so.
But in all reality, the best part of my week was when a seemingly small act turned into something wonderful for the entire newsroom.
As I’ve mentioned before, my biggest job as a part of the Mustang Daily team is to do the Word on the Street interviews. So I wander around campus aimlessly, stopping random people that walk by and ask if they’d like to be a part of the paper (which makes me want to point out that if I ever stop YOU to be a part of it, you should definitely do it because it’s pretty awesome to see your picture in the paper).
Anyway. As I was walking around campus doing my job with one of our photographers Nha Ha, we stopped a few people on Dexter Lawn. As we walked around, we saw a wallet lying on the ground. I took it back to the newsroom with me, figuring the best course of action was to use the wonderful invention, Facebook, to contact its owner. And guess what? It worked!
Within a couple hours, the (very) grateful owner of the wallet responded to my message and we set up a time for him to come to the newsroom to claim it. He did, got his wallet back and stayed to talk to those of us working that night for a little while. We joked around with him for a bit, saying we all loved baked goods and they were definitely deserved for the safe return of his wallet.
He left the newsroom a little after that, and those of us working put the incident in the back of our minds. It was time to concentrate on creating the dear Mustang Daily.
But what do you know? About an hour-and-a-half after he left, the owner of that wallet returned to the newsroom with four plates of fresh hot cookies. Hot. As in freshly made. No better way to get on the good side of the Mustang Daily staff than giving us free food!!
So, kids, the moral of the story: Good things really DO come to good people. And on behalf of the entire staff, a big thank you to Mr. Wallet Owner, who brought us delicious cookies.
For anyone reading this blog, you’re also welcome to bring us delicious food. And be sure to check out the other editors’ blogs!
