The father of computer engineering freshman Jordan Grant wants to make sure no one else is injured at the El Campo crossing of Highway 101.
According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports, Grant was killed on Oct. 7 as he was heading south on Highway 101 near Arroyo Grande, when a 42-year-old man driving a BMW on El Campo Road made an unsafe left turn directly into Grant’s path.
Jordan Gran’t father, James Grant, started a petition on change.org to eliminate intersection creates and is raising money on GoFundMe to make it happen.
“I’m heartbroken for this family. This intersection has got to change, it is way too unsafe and dangerous. I have no problem waiting at a traffic light there knowing it is saving lives,” local resident Lisa Rosemarie Ray said.

The crossing only has stop signs on El Campo Road and the highway is curved, obstructing the view of drivers trying to cross. During rush hour, cars turning onto the 101 must quickly turn.
The petition statement said many locals told Jordan’s parents that they do not allow their own family members to use the crossing due to the extremely risky nature of the turn.
The petition has reached more than 8,000 signatures in just a few days and James hopes to get to 10,000.
