Doug Cerf, the area chair for accounting and business law concentrations, will be the interim Orfalea College of Business dean, Cal Poly announced Monday. His position as interim dean will be effective July 1.
Cerf will temporarily fill the position of current dean Dave Christ, who will be leaving Cal Poly to become provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Baruch College in New York City.
The interim associate dean will be Rosemary Wild, area chair for the management concentration, beginning July 23.
Cerf has been teaching at Cal Poly since 1990, and has been the area chair for accounting and business law since 2007. In his new position, Cerf wants to see the student-oriented Low Income Taxpayer Clinic and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs continue to thrive, he said.
“Those programs are ‘Learn By Doing’ activities that are available to low-income individuals,” Cerf said. “We have a number of ‘Learn By Doing’ programs in the Orfalea College of Business.”
Wild will help fill the shoes of Bradford Anderson, Cal Poly’s interim vice president for research and economic development, who is still involved in his position as the college’s associate dean.
A former Distinguished Lecturer of the Year, Wild has been the Orfalea College of Business’ area chair for management since 2006.
Cerf is looking forward to working alongside Wild, Anderson and Assistant Dean Kris McKinlay, he said.
Cal Poly plans to conduct a national search for a permanent dean for the Orfelea College of Business.
