Andrew Thulin, current interim dean of the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, was named the college’s permanent dean on Monday.
After a national search and a limiting round of three candidates via campus presentations, Thulin was declared permanent leader of the college. Thulin served as interim dean beginning June 2013, and also formerly led the college’s animal science department for 15 years.
Thulin, who graduated from Cal Poly in 1977, now leads a college with over 180 faculty members.
“Over the last year since he’s been in place, he’s worked hard to bring the college together and identify strategic building and plans for the future — keeping mind the changing world around and making sure the students are prepared to work in that changing world,” communications director for the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences Haley Marconett said.
Thulin succeeds David Wehner, who served as dean from 2002 to 2013, but moved to serve as Cal Poly’s interim vice president for strategic initiatives in 2013. Wehner is now retiring.
Going forward, Thulin will finalize strategic plans, some of which include new facilities and buildings, including a new winery, agricultural research centers and more, Marconett said.
