You can’t always trust what you read, especially when it’s coming from Humza Chowdry. In his latest anti-Israel letter to the editor, Humza quoted former Prime Minister of Israel, Ariel Sharon, as saying, “I vow that if I was just an Israeli civilian and I met a Palestinian I would burn him and I would make him suffer before killing him.”
To put it simply, this quote is manufactured propaganda. The quote first appeared on anti-Israel Web sites in 2001, and has since been spewed from the mouths of “Humza’s” across the globe. The fraudulent quote is supposedly from an interview that General Ouze Merham had with Sharon in 1956. Little did Humza know, General Ouze Merham is a made-up person, who gave a makebelieve interview, which can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouze_Merham. The quote does not exist in any verifiable publication, yet that did not stop Humza from using it.
Humza goes on to compare Israelis to Nazis (I can’t think of a more inappropriate insult). Humza’s lack of compassion for the Jewish people who nearly faced extermination by the Nazis should not be tolerated on our college campus. It saddens me to see that there are people in this world filled with so much hate, and it hurts me to see that our own school paper allows this hatred to spread.
I encourage everyone to explore and learn more about Israel, but that requires reading reputable sources, not Humza Chowdry.
