George Hughes, who’s spent the last two years as the chief of police at the Colorado School of Mines Police Department, has been named the new chief of the University Police Department, according to a Call Poly news release.
He’s set to succeed former chief Bill Watton, who announced his retirement in December after 10 years with the department. He will assume his new role on Aug. 31.
Prior to Hughes’ most recent position, he was a sergeant with the Breckenridge Police Department in Colorado for 10 years. He was also an officer and detective at the Dayton Police Department in Ohio from 1991-99.
