Hip-hop duo Zion I is returning to San Luis Obispo with a show at SLO Brewing Co. on Jan. 26.
Comprised of MC Zumbi and producer AmpLive from Oakland, the duo previously performed in the University Union (UU) Plaza for UU Hour as “Zion I and The Grouch” — a combination of Zion I and rapper Corey Scoffern (aka “The Grouch”).
Zion I will be accompanied by artists Sol, Mksmth, Aileron and KauzaFex at its SLO Brew show.
Allan Hancock liberal arts junior Yohani Nunez knows one or two songs by Zion I, but she said she does not pay much attention to them.
“I will be at Steve Aoki,” she said, referring to an upcoming concert at the Recreation Center on Jan. 31.
Nunez isn’t the only one without Zion I on her radar.
“I have no idea who that is,” modern languages and literatures senior Emma Horowitz said.
Despite this, SLO Brew events and promotions supervisor Jessica Puchli seems hopeful.
“The scene is strong for hip hop in SLO,” she wrote in an email to Mustang News. “We expect a strong showing.”
The show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $16 in advance and $18 at the door.
