With the thundering weather last week, I feel like I shouldn’t be calling this season spring. But now, with Mother Nature beginning to grace us with the beautiful weather we all have been impatiently waiting for, I am incredibly excited.
Spring weather brings out good spirits, colorful clothing (not to mention the clothes I’ve bought and been so eagerly waiting to finally wear in the spring) and allergies — for those who unfortunately have them.
But spring weather also excites us for the summer that awaits all of us. Spring is the teaser for summer. I can tell you right now that while I’ve tried to read away for philosophy, I couldn’t stop thinking about the school year ending and summer beginning. It’s only a mere two months away, and those two little months will undoubtedly fly by at an incredible pace, judging by how the last two quarters have seemed to already disappear.
And because I now spend class time daydreaming about the three month break and warm, beautiful weather, it’s difficult to go to class. I can only imagine what it’s going to be like three or four weeks from now.
But why would you spend a lovely day inside when the weather outside is perfect? It doesn’t make any sense.
Though it may be extremely tempting to spend your days at the beach instead of in a 200-person, two-hour lecture, it is probably a good idea to keep up your motivation toward school.
I’m definitely not saying it’s better to stay in all day while others enjoy the warmth of the sun — I don’t know what I would do with myself if I was cooped up in my dorm — but there is a way to enjoy the sunshine and stay motivated, as impossible as that may seem.
Personally, I like studying inside, rather than outside, but when the weather is this nice, who can resist the fresh air.
So as spring (actually and finally) rolls around, spend time outside doing work instead of being in your stuffy dorm room.
In high school, it was difficult to enjoy being outdoors because we would be in school all day. Now that we’re in college and our classes are spread out (for the most part), we have time in the morning, in between and in the afternoon to do whatever we choose to do.
So with your extra time, spend it in the warmth and get work done. Try to stay on track while you’re outside so you’ll kill two birds with one stone: you’ll feel accomplished because you’re so productive, and you’ll be getting a good dose of vitamin D.
If you have a lot of work for classes, start — and finish — early. I’m all for waking up early, getting my work done and then enjoying the rest of my day. You not only feel extremely productive, but you get to reward yourself with a full, free day.
Being a college student and waking up early doesn’t exactly go hand-in-hand, so this is a difficult task all on its own, but it’s doable. It just takes a little time to adjust your sleep schedule, but in the end, it’ll be worth it because you’ll be satisfied that you have a free day all to yourself to go surfing, tanning, hiking or whatever you please.
If all those just aren’t doing it for you, make a countdown for the end of the year and the beginning of summer.
Making a countdown will help you realize how quickly this quarter is going by and will help you stay on track, making sure you don’t put things off until the last minute.
Spring quarter is about having an amazing time, better than the last two quarters, because it’s the last bit of freshman year. Stay motivated and, in the words of Mac Miller, “have a really, really, really good time.”
