The body found on a Santa Barbara beach on Saturday was confirmed to be Cal Poly sociology freshman Giselle Ayala, officials say.
According to a sheriff’s office press release, a jogger found the body of a college-aged female in the waterline at 8:20 a.m. on Saturday at Campus Point — a beach near the University of California, Santa Barbara campus. Police confirmed that it was Ayala late that night.
Ayala, who was in the area with a group of friends for the annual spring break party Deltopia, had been reported missing by a group of friends on Saturday at 7 p.m., according to the release. She was last seen at 11 p.m. on Friday night.
Because an investigation is ongoing, no other information is being released on the manner of her death at this time.

A Cal Poly student died while in Santa Barbara yesterday, according to an email from University President Jeffrey Armstrong and Vice President for Student Affairs Keith Humphrey to the Cal Poly community on Sunday.
The student, sociology freshman Giselle Ayala, was a resident of Yosemite Residence Hall, according to the email.
“Our thoughts are with Giselle’s family and those members of our community who were close to her,” Armstrong and Humphrey wrote. “The sudden loss of any student community member can be difficult to understand. All of our campus resources are available to support you if you need assistance.”
Special counseling is available in the Yosemite main lounge today until 4 p.m. Students may also contact the University Counseling Center any time.
No information on how Ayala died was included in the email.
