Finals are coming up and the library can get pretty packed, but there’s another study spot closer than you think.
Just steps off Cal Poly’s campus, Front Porch offers a place for students to study, get together and enjoy a free cup of coffee.
The initiative to have a free space for students was started in 1957 by the Presbyterian Church with a house off Foothill Boulevard.
“We are all about building community,” intern Carolynn Kern said. “What we hope is that when people walk through our door, they are met with love and a warm cup of coffee.”
Front Porch’s coffee shop is now located behind the Health Center. It is financed entirely by donations and run daily by volunteers. If a volunteer wants to stay through the night, the coffee shop will be open through the night.
Front Porch also hosts weekly Trivia Nights on Wednesdays, Open Mic nights during the month and group discussion about Christianity and the community.
