Cal Poly, which dropped from No. 3 to No. 18/19 following losses to Montana and UC Davis, continued its climb back into the top 15 in both national Division I-AA football polls Monday.
The Mustangs, No. 15 after beating Eastern Washington 40-35 on Nov. 5, climbed two more spots to No. 13 in the Sports Network and ESPN/USA Today polls with one week to go in the 2005 regular season.
The top five teams this week are New Hampshire (9-1), Hampton (10-0), Montana (8-2), Furman (8-2) and Texas State (8-2). New Hampshire, which had the No. 1 ranking for two weeks earlier this season, regained the top spot after defeating Hofstra 29-26 two weeks ago. The Wildcats beat Iona 56-0 last week.
In last week's Gridiron Power Index (GPI) rating released by I-AA.org, Cal Poly was No. 6. The top three teams were New Hampshire, Montana and Appalachian State.
In this week's Jeff Sagarin ratings published Monday in USA Today, Cal Poly dropped three positions to 99th among the 239 football teams in Divisions I-A and I-AA. The Mustangs are seventh among I-AA schools and are ranked ahead of such Division I-A schools as Hawaii and Mississippi State among others.
