Eversley’s ascent continues
Months after being named the Big West Conference Tournament’s Most Valuable Player, former Cal Poly forward Chris Eversley signed a professional contract with the Westports Malaysia Dragons.
Eversley led the Cal Poly men’s basketball program in his senior season with an average of 13.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, helping the Mustangs win the Big West Tournament and their first NCAA Division I Tournament victory in their history.
Based in Kuala Lumpur, the Dragons compete in a six-team league, including teams from Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore. The 20-game regular season tips off on July 16.
Eversley leaves Cal Poly as the 12th leading scorer in men’s basketball history, with 1,192 points in just three seasons.
Diamond update
After being drafted this year by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 24th round, former Cal Poly baseball player Jimmy Allen made his professional debut last week for the Ogden Raptors — the Dodgers’ Advanced Rookie affiliate.
The infielder made his first start at second base against the Orem Owlz in the Pioneer League last Sunday, going 2-for-4 with an RBI in the Raptors’ 9-7 win.
In five games, Allen is batting .313 with four RBIs.
Starting pitcher Matt Imhof, drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the second round, and Chris Hoo, taken by Miami in the 27th round, have both signed contracts, but have not been given assignments by their organizations.
