Envoy Now, a food delivery service, has made its way to Cal Poly and is starting to make its mark by participating in multiple fundraisers for clubs and greek life organizations.
Envoy Now is an app that lets users order food from various restaurants around San Luis Obispo, such as Chipotle, Panda Express and Which Wich. With the addition of a $2.99 delivery fee, users can have food delivered to them with the touch of a button. The San Luis Obispo chapter of Envoy Now said it wants to be involved in local fundraisers to give back to its community.
The company was started by University of Southern California students in 2014, but was brought to Cal Poly in Fall 2015. The Cal Poly branch has approximately 60 student drivers. All of Envoy Now’s marketing managers and business developers are students too.
Envoy Now’s Cal Poly branch has partnered with the film club and Alpha Chi Omega (AXO) sorority to help during fundraisers.
AXO held a Panda Express fundraiser two weeks ago during its Love Shouldn’t Hurt Week, with proceeds donated to the San Luis Obispo Women’s Shelter.
Panda Express customers had to show a Love Shouldn’t Hurt Week flyer while ordering their food to support AXO’s fundraiser during the event. When customers ordered through the Envoy Now app, however, the company would show the flyer for anyone ordering at the time, to ensure that the fundraiser was being supported.
Vice President of Philanthropy for AXO and sociology junior Livi Ramirez said Envoy Now helped to direct more customers to Panda Express during the fundraising event.
“It’s really cool,” Ramirez said. “We’re kind of trying to promote them because it’s really awesome how they can involve themselves in philanthropy events.”
Envoy Now employees also volunteered to get hit in the face with pies during AXO’s “Throw Pies Not Punches” event that same week to support the sorority’s fight against domestic abuse.
Film club member and graphic communication sophomore Sky Ulep said that Envoy Now was receptive to the club during its fundraiser as well.
“I’m a strong proponent of Envoy Now,” Ulep said. “I’d definitely recommend others to use it.”
Envoy Now’s marketing manager and agricultural business junior Matthew Pirtle said that fundraising with Cal Poly clubs and greek life chapters is always a win-win deal. He said promoting fundraisers is no burden on the company, so helping out students was a no-brainer.
“Our motto here is by the students, for the students. We have the ‘by the students’ part down, but you can’t really be for the students unless you help out with fundraising for clubs or a good cause,” Pirtle said.
Pirtle said student organizations can contact Envoy Now’s strategic partnership manager Nick Hardy at 714-917-5463 for fundraising promotions.
