San Luis Taqueria, a new authentic Mexican restaurant, had a two-day grand opening in downtown San Luis Obispo last weekend.
This new restaurant, located near Mission Plaza at 1032 Chorro St., plans to bring authentic style Mexican cuisine and atmosphere to the San Luis Obispo area. San Luis Taqueria moved into the restaurant space once El Matador closed for undisclosed reasons.
San Luis Taqueria’s grand opening this past weekend included music from a live mariachi band and array of seafood, vegetarian and meat options to choose from, as well as their traditional salsa bar.
“We want tourists, students and anyone who visits to taste authentic Mexican food,” manager Jose Torres said. “That’s why we are here.”
Originally from Mexico, Torres moved to San Luis Obispo from Santa Cruz to start his own restaurant after working in the food industry. He said the weather, scenery and nice people brought him down to the Central Coast. He said his goal is to try and cater to everybody who eats at his restaurant.
“We have a variety of customers and that’s why our menu is so big and specific. Everything is homemade and all fresh,” Torres said.
San Luis Taqueria is the third Mexican restaurant added to the San Luis Obispo area in the past two months, following the opening of Taqueria Santa Cruz and Efren’s Mexican Restaurant.
San Luis Taqueria is open Sunday to Wednesday 9 a.m.-11 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday 9 a.m.-midnight.
