The sun lacks compassion,
Beating down relentlessly.
Revealing the silent suffering,
Of the young one dying.
And in the bright sunlight,
Shines something very dark.
The struggle not to live,
But to die.
Crawling on an impending grave,
Tear ducts all but dry.
Parched are the lungs,
That breathe in sand,
Whose prayers are forgotten,
In this Godless land.
Alone but for the presence of a patient predator,
Apathetic to become a vulture’s prey.
With depleting strength, and a weary soul,
Hollow eyes fall back and pray,
De profundus ater clamo ad te damine.
