Dean of Students Jean DeCosta has determined that a reported Pi Kappa Alpha party held during social probation was not hosted by the fraternity, according to an email from Cal Poly spokesperson Matt Lazier.
“It appears the gathering was initially supposed to be a handful of people who would gather at the house and then head downtown,” Lazier wrote. “But the size grew as several people invited others, who themselves invited others.”
The party was hosted at a residence on Chaplin Lane not affiliated with Pi Kappa Alpha, though two members of the fraternity were mentioned in a noise citation issued by San Luis Obispo Police Department (SLOPD). DeCosta has decided the house will now be fraternity-affiliated as a satellite house, Lazier wrote.
“However, since three greeks live at the residence, and one organized the event that got out of hand and disrupted the neighbors, the Dean of Students’ office has told the chapter that the house will now be considered a satellite house for the future,” Lazier wrote.
Pi Kappa Alpha’s internal chapter judicial committee will be responsible for deciding what sanctions will be taken against the three fraternity members who live at the residence for hosting an event that disrupted the neighborhood, according to Lazier.
DeCosta also contacted Pi Kappa Alpha’s national organization to “seek assistance regarding compliance with Cal Poly’s new party registration process,” Lazier wrote.
