The Mustang Maniacs are out in full force this season. Their main goal this fall lies within the area of promotion.
Maniacs President Kristen Spencer said they are trying to incorporate their fall rally with the sports teams and their fans. One of the things they are trying out is a combination of athletes and dance music.
The first meeting of the Mustang Maniacs will be tonight at 6:45 p.m. in Mott Gym.
Spencer said a lot will be happening at their meeting, including one main event.
“We have a lot planned, but one of the main highlights we’re doing is an athlete dance-off at 7:30,” she said.
Spencer said that the athlete dance-off was created with multiple purposes in mind.
“We are creating new ways to bring in membership and also increase support for the sports teams,” Spencer said.
Nick Emmons, public relations practitioner for the Mustang Maniacs, talked about the goals of the club this fall.
“Our goals are to promote school spirit and to bring the fans out to the games in support,” Emmons said.
Kim Reynolds, midfielder for the women’s soccer team, is going to dance. She said that her football opponents were in for some serious competition.
“I expect Ramses and Tredale to make up the funniest dance ever,” Reynolds said. “But we’re for sure going to be better than them.”
When asked if she thought the soccer team representatives would win the dance-off, she said, “Yeah, of course!”
Midfielder Jessica Rodriguez will also be representing the soccer team. She said that she is going to employ an easy strategy for the dance-off.
“It’s like this: Go big or go home,” Rodriguez said.
Mustang’s wide receiver Ramses Barden will be dancing for the football team. He said his strategy for the dance-off is a pretty basic one.
“We’re just going to have to keep the energy up, get some crowd participation, ad-lib a little bit and then wing it from there,” Barden said.
Barden said that in respect to dancing competition from other teams, the whole thing is open.
“I’m going to say I respect my opponent, but they’re going to have to go in and expect a dog fight out of this,” he said.
“They’re not going to get anything easy.”
Wide receiver Tredale Tolver is also representing the football team.
“The Mustang Maniacs wanted to have a dance-off to raise moral and increase fan support for sporting events,” Tolver said.
When asked about how he thought he would do in the dance-off, Tolver compared his dancing skills to his football skills.
“If dancing was like the playoffs,” I think I’d have to consider myself a definite winner,” he said.
Tolver went on to say that he was confident that the football athletes would have no problem winning the dance-off.
“I think we’re going to take the cake.”
Well then, let the dance begin.
