Following the recent breach of data from Target, it seems cyber security will be an important issue in the near future. Cal Poly, along with the help of Northrop Grumman, is training the first generation of cyber security experts.
This Thursday, the Cal Poly—Northrop Grumman Cyber Lab will have its official dedication ceremony.
Cyber security is the protection of online information and systems from attack. Northrop Grumman has partnered with Cal Poly to make a Cybersecurity Center on campus.
The undergraduate and graduate teaching lab is the first of its kind in the nation, according to a press release. It opened for classes this month.
Northrop Grumman is the leading global security company, and donated approximately $150,000 for the electronic infrastructure of the Cybersecurity Canter. Cal Poly spent approximately $200,000 renovating the space, according to a previous Mustang News article.
The lab has three rooms, 32 workstations, projectors and a presentation center.
Speakers for the dedication ceremony include Cal Poly President Jeffrey Armstrong, Northrop Grumman Chairman, CEO and President Wes Bush, College of Engineering Dean Debra Larson and Cal Poly Society of Women Engineers President Jessie Klemme.
The ceremony will take place Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the third floor of Engineering Building IV (building 192). Following the ceremony, students and faculty will give lab demonstrations.
