The San Luis Obispo Police Department is looking for a man suspected of using seven counterfeit $100 bills in the downtown area.
Police said the suspect, described as a white male in his 20s, would enter a downtown store and buy something cheap with a fake $100 bill. Some cashiers tested the bills with a counterfeit pen, but would receive a false-positive result that it was a good bill.
Employees at the First Bank of San Luis Obispo found the bills Friday afternoon and reported it to the police. When held up to the light, the employees found a poor watermark on the bills, police said.
Police responded to a call about a suspicious male downtown on Thursday who had attempted to use a $100 bill. The suspect is described as being approximately 5 foot 10 inches and 220 pounds with dark hair and a strong European accent.
The case is still under investigation and police request that any additional information be reported to SLOPD.
