NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” winner, Iliza Shlesinger, will perform on April 29 from 8-10 p.m. at Cal Poly’s Multi Activity Center.
Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) Special Events Student Assistant Arin Miller booked Shlesinger to appear at Cal Poly.
“All of her reviews from other shows she’d done were really positive,” Miller said. “She came highly recommended from all the agents I talked to.”
Miller said the event will be an opportunity for students to take a break from midterm stress.
“It’s week five, midterms are here, everyone needs a study break and a good laugh; perfect timing,” Miller said.
Shlesinger is the youngest person and only woman to win NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” She recently hosted and filmed 230 episodes of CBS’s comedy dating show “Excused.” Shlesinger has appeared on a Comedy Central Presents special, “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” “Live at Gotham,” “Chelsea Lately,” “The Soup,” “Last Call with Carson Daily,” “Who Gets the Last Laugh?,” “Pauly Shore and Friends,” “Bridging the Gap Comedy Festival” and “I Am Comic.” Shlesinger’s comedy special, “War Paint,” reached the top of the iTunes charts and is available on Netflix. She has performed live stand-up at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, hundreds of clubs and colleges and at a variety of countries for troops overseas.
Miller said the event will give students a chance to see a well-known comedienne up close.
“It’s cool that she’s a recognizable face that students can see in person, given her experience winning NBC’s ‘Last Comic Standing,'” Miller said.
ASI events director Missi Bullock said because the show is free, ASI is not sure of how many people will come, but she expects the routine to be funny and worth seeing.
The show is free with a PolyCard and $10 for everyone else.
