College of Liberal Arts (CLA) students will vote Tuesday and Wednesday on whether to implement a $112 quarterly college-based fee.
If implemented, the increase would raise CLA fees to $291 per quarter, the same as every other academic college. The CLA raised fees to $179 in 2002, when all other colleges raised to $291.
CLA Dean Doug Epperson estimated CLA would receive about $1 million in additional funding if the fee increase materializes. The money would go towards educational enhancement programs such as Study Abroad, opening more class sections and major employment called “Earn By Doing.”
The student vote has no direct legislative consequences. It is meant to advise President Jeffrey Armstrong on his next course of action, though Associated Students, Inc. President Jason Colombini said he would intervene if Armstrong’s decision doesn’t match the students’ expressed preference.
