With the anticipated opening of the yakʔityuityu residence halls Fall 2018, the Cerro Vista apartments are now being opened up for continuing students. Currently, the apartments are used as freshman housing.
“The Cerro Vista Apartments were originally built to house continuing students and will again serve that purpose,” Assistant Director of Outreach and Communications for University Housing Nona Matthews wrote in an email to Mustang News.
Due to the influx of freshmen this year, units in Poly Canyon Village and Cerro Vista had to accommodate extra students and freshmen that normally wouldn’t be placed in those housing communities.
“Poly Canyon Village will be reserved exclusively for continuing students and new transfer students,” Matthews said. “Cerro Vista Apartments will serve continuing students and possibly some freshman.”
As the yakʔityuityu residence halls will open for the 2018-2019 academic year, most freshmen will once again be assigned to housing originally intended for incoming students.
“Freshman will not be able to request a Cerro Vista apartment, as they have in the past,” Matthews said. “However, some may be assigned in Cerro Vista based on new student demand or to accommodate an approved need.”
