I would just like to take a moment to comment on Grant Desme’s letter, 12/2/05.
I quote, “It is not our job as Christians to judge one’s soul.” Oddly enough, this came only one paragraph after, “On the other hand, homosexuality is wrong whether or not one is a priest as the Old Testament states in Leviticus 18:22 and in 20:13.” Now, bear with me, but if it is not the job of Christians to judge the souls of others, then why do you? Even if you say that your opinion is based on Biblical texts, that’s still a judgment on your behalf. I’m not trying to be condescending here, but if you are going to try to preach the glories of your church, at least have a consistent position.
For example, Leviticus 10:9 states: “Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations.” Bottom line: everyone in the Catholic Church who has taken wine during communion has committed a sin in God’s eyes. Unless, of course, you say you’re sorry.
A point of advice: Next time you write a column to express your blind embrace of something as hypocritical as the Catholic Church, please do some research to understand what is truly going wrong.
