I, like many others, was incredibly shocked and saddened to hear of the untimely death of actor Heath Ledger on Tuesday. It saddens me to think of how such a wonderful actor’s life was cut so short.
After thinking of the actor’s death for the last two days, I found it incredibly offensive to see the cartoon entitled “Pop Culture Shock Therapy” in Thursday’s Mustang Daily in which the cartoon depicts a very similar scene to what reports are saying of the location of the actor’s death (person dead on the bed, pills scattered about, etc).
Whether the Mustang Daily printed this cartoon to shed light on the issue or whether the cartoon was to be a depiction of the actor’s death at all, it was extremely offensive to print the cartoon at this point in time. It’s disrespectful to Heath Ledger’s memory, his family, his friends, and to his fans who mourn his death all over the world.
