Police arrested Cal Poly business freshman Phillip Leichtle Saturday for allegedly stealing property from multiple vehicles on Cuesta Drive, according to the San Luis Obispo Police Department.
At around 6:15 a.m. Saturday morning, a man saw Leichtle rummaging through his neighbor’s pick-up truck on the 600 block of Cuesta Drive. The man contacted his neighbor, Ron Hughes, who found that over $4 in change had been stolen from his truck.
Hughes went in search of Leichtle until he located him near U.S. Highway 1 and Westmont. Police arrived later and arrested him at that location.
Police found that Leichtle was in possession of stolen property taken from four other unlocked vehicles on the same block. Police also discovered that Leichtle had entered several other vehicles on that block, but did not take any property.
Leichtle was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on charges of receiving stolen property and misdemeanor theft. His bail was set at $20,000.
