
The Cal Poly women’s basketball team handed visiting Oregon State a 68-65 loss Tuesday night in Mott Gym.
Senior forward Jessica Eggleston scored 16 points and junior guard Toni Newman added 10 for the Mustangs (1-1), who outscored the Beavers (1-1) by a 47-33 margin in the second half.
Cal Poly had seven players score seven or more points.
Sparkle Anderson and Bria Fields chipped in nine points each for Cal Poly, which overcame 20 turnovers. The Mustangs shot 45.5 percent from the field and were 16 for 23 from the free-throw line.
Newman pulled down eight rebounds and Fields blocked a game-high two shots.
Substitute Jasmine Smith scored a game-high 20 points for Oregon State, which outrebounded Cal Poly 39-30.
The game was attended by 366 fans. Cal Poly visits Santa Clara for another nonconference game at 7 p.m. Friday.
