The Cal Poly women’s soccer team (10-7-1, 3-4-0) celebrated its last home game of regular season play with a 1-0 victory over the University of the Pacific (10-4-4, 2-3-1) on Sunday.
The game’s only goal was scored by Cal Poly’s Danielle Camarena, in the 51st minute, with the assist credited to Ashley Vallis.
Saturday’s game represented a necessary win for the Mustangs, should they hope to defend their Big West crown this season.
Goalie Liz Hill shut out the Tigers and made six saves.
“(The game) went really well,” Mustang junior Kelsey Carroll said. “We haven’t really had that many games where we’ve played really well for the full 90 minutes. We’ve gone up and down, but this time I think everyone was fighting the whole game.”
Cal Poly will play its last regular season game against UC Santa Barbara at 7 p.m. Friday at Santa Barbara.
“We’re pretty pumped for the game (against UC Santa Barbara),” Carroll said. “We want to end our season as well as we can. We’ve had a couple losses in league, so we just want to make sure that we win the last game.”
The Gauchos are led by Genelle Ives and Alley Kueny. Ives leads the team with four goals and 13 points and is second on the team with five assists. She has one game-winning goal.
Kueny is first on the team with six assists and 34 shots and is second on the team with three goals and 12 points. She also has one game-winning goal.
