Cal Poly women’s golf opened their season with a top-10 finish at The Gold Rush hosted by Long Beach State at the El Dorado Hills Golf Course in Long Beach, California.
The team sat in 11th place after two rounds on the first day, Feb. 12, with an aggregate of 46 over par.
Cal Poly finished the final round with the second-best total score of 294 and concluded the tournament 52 over par 916, 33 strokes behind first-place University of Georgia.
In the end, the Mustangs were able to move up one spot to 10th place out of 14 teams.
Freshman Caroline Cantlay, competing as an individual, tied for the lead after the first round of play, carding 71 strokes.
Senior Sophie Bergland moved up 21 spots after finishing with a nine-over-par 225 aggregate.
Senior Desiree Gillaspy and junior Mallory Muehlbauer ended the second round of play tied for 28th place. Muehlbauer was tied for second in par-3 scoring.
Cantlay, Bergland, Gillaspy and Muehlbauer all tied for 15th place.
The women’s golf team competes next at the Bruin-Wave Invitational hosted by University of California Los Angeles and Pepperdine at the San Luis Obispo Country Club Feb. 26 and 27.
