After a 4-0 week following a Tuesday win vs. Saint Mary’s and series sweep at Hawaii this past weekend, the Cal Poly baseball team moved up in several major Division I polls released Monday.
The Mustangs (30-5, 8-1 Big West) now boast a No. 3 ranking by Perfect Game, Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and were tabbed No. 4 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll.
The No. 3 billing in several polls is the highest in program history for the Mustangs.
Cal Poly has won six straight games and 20 of its last 22. With the sweep of Hawaii, the Mustangs have now won nine series this season and reached 30 wins in the fewest number of games all-time.
Baseball America had Cal Poly as the No. 5 national seed in its 2014 Midseason Projected Field of 64 released last week. If those projections hold up, it would mean the Mustangs would host a regional at Baggett Stadium, the first in the ballpark’s history.
Cal Poly is tied atop the conference standings with UC Irvine (24-11, 8-1) headed into this weekend’s matchup with Cal State Fullerton at Baggett Stadium.
The Titans dropped out of the major polls this week after losing their series to UC Santa Barbara over the weekend.
