Monday:
Cal Poly’s club triathlon team is gearing up for this weekend’s Wildflower Triathlon at Lake San Antonio. The team has been preparing all year for the event; however, according to kinesiology sophomore Becca Brookes, this week is the easiest when it comes to intensity of exercises.
“About three weeks ago, we started working up from our base, building and then taper down for this week so we don’t strain ourselves before the race,” Brookes said.
Tuesday:
Tuesday’s practice consists of a group bike ride in the morning and a group run in the afternoon.
Wednesday:
Animal science senior Natalie Greco prepares nutritionally during the week, as well. She gets in her recommended amount of protein through beans, nuts and protein shakes.
“This is my second year on the team, and fourth triathlon,” she said. “The week before the race, I like to load on complex carbs such as sweet potatoes, quinoa and whole wheat pasta.”
Thursday:
Thursday is another day of biking in the morning from the Recreation Center to running from the track in the afternoon. Despite the high temperatures, the team encouraged each other to keep up their momentum.
Friday:
The team leaves for Wildflower to get in an afternoon swim practice before resting up.
Saturday:
Race day!
