After another 4-0 week, Cal Poly baseball’s rise through the polls has reached the top. The Mustangs were ranked No. 1 by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper in the latest report released on Monday.
Cal Poly (34-5, 11-1 Big West) beat Cal State Bakersfield 9-1 in a midweek game on Tuesday and swept then-No.19 Cal State Fullerton this past weekend to complete its third 4-0 week of the season.
The Mustangs climbed to No. 2 in the Baseball America poll and stayed at No. 3 in the Perfect Game poll.
The only other Division I Cal Poly program to be ranked No. 1 was the women’s volleyball team, which held the top spot for a week in 1985.
The Mustangs have won 10 games in a row, 16 of their last 17 overall and have not lost a series this season. Cal Poly has 15 games left, including four against teams ranked in the top 30 in at least one of the polls.
Cal Poly will host San Jose State (12-28) for a non-conference game on Tuesday before embarking on a seven-game road trip that starts with a three-game series at Long Beach State (18-19, 5-4 Big West) this weekend.
