Riding a three-game winning streak, Cal Poly traveled to Madison to square off against Wisconsin Wednesday. The win marked the end of Cal Poly’s winning streak as the Mustangs (3-6) fell to the Badgers (8-2), 90-42.
In the contest, junior Shawn Lewis scored the first basket of the game, but it would be the only lead the Mustangs held.
The Mustangs were led by Lewis with 10 points, hitting three of 10 shots from the floor. Senior Lorenzo Keeler added seven while Will Taylor came off the bench to add six.
Badgers’ senior guard Trevon Hughes recorded 20 points, he was one of four players who finished with double figures. His showcase etched his 1,011 point in his career, joining 33 other Badgers to score over 1,000 points. Jon Lauer added 16 with Keaton Nankivil and Jason Bohannon each scoring 12.
The red-hot Badgers propelled the team to a 51-19 lead at the half while the Mustangs made just eight of 26.
Wisconsin never let up, in the second half they shot 57 percent from the floor connecting on 56 percent of their shots in the second half. Cal Poly shot 43 percent in the half and made just two of five from behind the three point line.
Overall, the Mustangs shot 35 percent from the floor and made 29 percent from long range compared to Wisconsin who shot 61 percent for the game and made 13 of 24 long range (54 percent).
Donahue led the Mustangs in rebounding with five. The team was outrebounded 22-29. Cal Poly committed 22 turnovers compared to Wisconsin who had nine.
The Mustangs return to the court on Dec. 21 when the team will host Montana State for a 7 p.m. tip in Mott Gym.
