Cal Poly’s offensive prowess from the second half of the Big West Tournament championship has carried over to its First Four matchup against Texas Southern. The Mustangs lead the Tigers 44-32 behind a 54 percent shooting percentage.
Texas Southern is shooting 44 percent from the field, while Aaric Murray has dominated the Mustangs down low and outside, scoring 17 points.
The winner advances to face Wichita State on Friday in St. Louis as a No. 16 seed.
Cal Poly’s leading scorer so far is senior forward Chris Eversley with 11 points.
David Nwaba kept the Mustangs in the game offensively early after Murray had three consecutive dunks against Cal Poly’s defense.
