Cal Poly football’s run-heavy offense has led top receiver Willie Tucker and quarterback Tanner Trosin to transfer elsewhere in search of a more traditional passing offense, according to the San Luis Obispo Tribune.
Tucker was the Cal Poly’s top threat at wideout last season, averaging more than 62 yards receiving per game before a knee injury suffered against Yale sidelined him for the rest of the year. Tucker told the Tribune he has yet to commit to his future college, but Oregon State is his top choice, while Boise State has also expressed interest in the junior’s services.
Tucker will not be able to participate next year regardless of the team he chooses due to NCAA transfer rules. He has yet to use his redshirt option, which he will use in 2014 to comply with the requirements of the transfer process. Tucker will be a senior in 2015.
Trosin will transfer to American River College, a junior college near Sacramento, with the hopes of moving to a four-year university the following year. The sophomore will complete the academic year at Cal Poly.
Trosin was part of Cal Poly’s deep quarterback position and figured to be the third string QB behind Chris Brown and Dano Graves in 2014.
Trosin led Cal Poly quarterbacks in efficiency rating in his freshman season, but only attempted four passes in limited playing time.
