Following its weekend sweep of Sacramento State, Cal Poly moved into the Baseball America Top 25 rankings Monday.
The Mustangs (6-1), off to their best start since 2001, squeezed in right at No. 25, as UCLA, Stanford, Missouri and Florida dropped out.
They could climb by toppling No. 12 Pepperdine on March 10. UC Irvine (No. 5) and Cal State Fullerton (No. 7) were the other Big West Conference teams ranked.
Baseball News has the Mustangs at No. 17. Ping! magazine chimed in with a No. 27 slotting, while Rivals.com is holding them in the “others considered” category.
Cal Poly is outhitting its opponents .326-.270 this year, but perhaps more importantly, has dropped its ERA from last year’s 5.15 to 4.14.
