Singer-songwriter Brandon Tyler will perform an acoustic set Tuesday night at Frog and Peach.
The Sacramento native and former Cuesta College student will unite with guitar player Greg Adams, drummer Graham Roggli, and bassist Astor Lawson to promote Tyler’s new EP album, “Turbulence”.
“Turbulence”, the title track on the EP, was released March 14.
“The song is [about] when I was on an airplane and had a surreal moment thinking, ‘This is crazy how people get on a plane and go 30,000 feet in the air,’” Tyler said. “It’s pretty incredible that we can do this and we never stop to think about it.”
The Turbulence tour will be the first time Tyler has traveled throughout California.
“This is my first official tour and the first time I’m really taking it to the road,” Tyler said.
Tyler’s unique vocals and guitar riffs stem from strong influences from Third Eye Blind, Goo Goo Dolls and Counting Crows, to name a few.
His EP was recorded at Pus Cavern Studios in Sacramento, originally to help the owners record a benefit song to get digitally distributed, but also start a record label Nozzle.
Pus Cavern has worked with a wide range of artists, from Snoop Dog to indie-influenced Silversun Pickups and Airborn Toxic Event.
Tyler got his start in the music scene at the age of 16 by performing at a local radio station in Sacramento every Friday night with members of his band from high school. He wrote all his own music throughout high school. This was when he knew this is what he wanted to do with his life.
Tyler, recently on a hiatus from his current job, had the time to promote his EP to various venues throughout California and created press kits all on his own.
“We’re just trying to break even on this tour and get the name out. The bottom line is that is a lot of work and a lot of promotion,” Tyler said. “I’m ordering merchandise. I’m scheduling the tour. I’m contacting press from the ground up. We’re doing this whole business on our own.”
Liberal Arts senior Jess Ballard plans to attend the show and has friends who have seen Tyler perform when he attended Cuesta College and played at Linnaea’s Café.
“I’m happy that Brandon has the chance to actually go on tour and get the word out. His music is pretty unique and I enjoy watching him perform,” Ballard said.
Tyler hopes his show will bring honesty to his performance and people can enjoy the music and have a good time bonding with one another.
“I just want to party with people and have a good time. I want everyone to come out and say that my show would be a really fun show to come to. I want people to connect,” Tyler said.
Tyler will perform Tuesday at 10 p.m. at Frog and Peach. The Turbulence tour runs July 2 to July 18.
