And the winner of Battle of the Bands is … Box the Oxford.
After receiving the most votes from attendees of the event, the group’s California surf rock vibes proved to win over the crowd at Cal Poly’s Battle of the Bands last weekend. The band of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science students showed the audience a great time and are excited to do it again as openers for Spring Stampede.
Audience members danced and cheered them on, much to the band’s delight.
“Our hearts were warmed to hear a lot of people say they enjoyed our performance and our music after the show,” guitarist and computer science junior Colton Stapper said.
The band competed against four other groups in ASI’s Battle of the Bands. The prize was not only recognition from the student body, but also a spot performing at Spring Stampede later this quarter.
“Of course we wanted to win, but we kept expectations low at the night of the event (and) only concerned ourselves with the performance rather than the results,” Stapper said. “We are glad we did that because we ended up having a blast during the show.”
Box the Oxford hopes to continue to perform and gain a fan base before an album release in October 2016. Their presence and talent won the hearts of the Cal Poly crowd and the band walks away from this battle victorious.
