The 2007 Cal Poly Rose Float, titled “Arctic Antics,” will be viewed around the world via satellite TV on the morning of Jan. 1, 2007. The float will depict a group of penguins and polar bears ringing in the New Year with a luau, a scene that celebrates the Rose Parade theme of “In Our Good Nature.

Cal Poly updates mission statement
The Academic Senate Executive Committee has officially proposed changing Cal Poly’s mission statement. The new mission statement was written after consultation between the administration, faculty and staff.
The new statement emphasizes Cal Poly’s polytechnic, hands-on approach to learning, as well as the importance of a well-rounded education and involvement in one’s community.

Mustang fencing club team ends fall season strong
The Cal Poly fencing club team finished fall quarter with multiple top rankings in the Cal Poly Turkey Tournament, a competition the Mustangs hosted Saturday.
“As a team, we took first in foil and sabre and second in epee,” team vice president Kyle Yamasaki said.
Hoping for a more better future for English
Just this summer, I wrote an opinion piece calling attention to society’s rampant abuse of the English language. The article examined some typical grammatical errors and then looked at how they could be corrected. Obviously, nobody heeded the article. To be fair, it was summer.

SLO residents vote Measure 'Y'es
Measure Y passed Tuesday night with 64.74 percent of the vote, meaning that the city of San Luis Obispo will now pay a half-cent more on sales taxes for the next eight years.
The measure finished with 7,738 votes supporting it and only 4,215 votes opposing it.
SLO to see a taxing future
Voters will decide on the fate of Measure Y tomorrow, a piece of legislation proposing a half-cent sales tax increase for the city of San Luis Obispo.
The current sales tax throughout the county is 7.25 percent, the lowest sales tax allowed by the state. The proposed increase would bring the sales tax to 7.
