Since I live in the little community of Grover Beach and can literally see the beach from my house, I often go down there to exercise and run along the breakwater in an effort to be healthy. But lately I’ve noticed the amount of litter getting bigger and bigger along these runs.
Alum cartoonist following his passion
Being an artist runs in Kelly Ferguson’s family. His grandfather and great-grandfather were painters, and Ferguson, 32, also paints, but what really makes his face light up is cartoons.
“Growing up, I loved going straight to the comic section in the newspaper, and my dad used to cut out cartoons and put them on the fridge, which I really loved,” Ferguson said.
Poly bull rider No. 1 in country
The bull’s nostrils are flaring with anger, and the rider slips his hand into the ropes that will fasten him to the sizable beast. For the next eight seconds, man and bull will be tied together in a battle of who can withstand the other longest.
“There can be no doubt in your mind about getting hurt, or that you can’t do this,” says Cal Poly’s Josh Verburg.

'Gas Hole' unearths the oil business' cruder aspects
There was a time, not too long ago, when the price of a gallon of gas was cheaper than a Slurpee from 7-Eleven. Signs a few years ago used to say 91 cents per gallon, and now people would freak out if it was to be that low again.

His prowess at the plate hasn’t been so secret this season, as his .361 batting average is second for the Cal Poly baseball team, as are his .
Wagner earns All-Big West Second Team selection
Brycen Wagner has the most interesting picture on GoPoly.com. Not a typical golfer with pleated plaid pants and a polo shirt, he looks like he jumped straight out of the late 1970s with golf clubs in hand. If he had theme music following him during tournaments, it would most likely be classic rock.
NOFX gives backstage access to worldwide tour
NOFX is a band that goes against the norm. Its members don’t give many interviews and the group has never had a music video play on MTV or VH1. “NOFX: Backstage Passport” first aired on Fuse TV at 10 p.m. last Tuesday.
The eight episodes make up a docu-series that follows the legendary punk band on its travels around the globe.
Exploring the Central Coast
San Luis Obispo contains a wide variety of activities for students escaping campus life. Cal Poly swimmer setting the bar
Mark Barr hasn’t let a little thing like his leg being amputated stop him from doing what he loves to do, and that’s swimming. He’s overcome cancer and having his leg amputated from the knee down, prevailed with a positive attitude and wants to share his story with others like him.
Evoking the past through music
His music is musty with a hint of back wood twang, but Jon Bartel’s smokey lyrics create a foot-tapping melody. Once he starts singing, listeners are transported to an older time. He will be opening for songwriter David Olney Friday at the San Luis Obispo City/County Library.
