Board of Supervisors approve medical marijuana bill for SLO

Medical Marijuana Identification Cards (MMICs) were approved by the County of San Luis Obispo Board of Supervisors Aug. 1 in a 3 to 2 vote.

San Luis Obispo is now the 22nd of 58 California counties that have approved MMICs. In 2003, California Senate Bill 420 passed, requiring counties to create a Medical Marijuana Program.

Poly alum John Madden inducted into Hall of Fame

Cal Poly alumnus John Madden touched down into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Aug. 5 in a ceremony that took place in Canton, Ohio. The legendary coach actually got on a plane for the first time since 1979. His fear of flying is thought to have stemmed from an October 1960 plane crash that killed members of the Cal Poly football team.

Animal science department adds four new buildings

Cal Poly’s animal science department is undergoing big changes with the construction of four new buildings.

The newly built hay barn and beef center is located across from Cuesta Community College off Education Boulevard in the hills, was part of Escuela Ranch.

Immediately upon entrance to the second floor of Splash Cafe on Monterey Boulevard, the smell of peppermint consumes the room. This is Tom Neuhaus’ own organic chocolate factory. The workers here aren’t little blue people, but rather students, volunteers and paid workers.

Free meditation class to offer summer stress relief

Students have the chance to escape the stress of summer school and attend a free meditation session July 21 at the Yoga Centre. The meditation will be guided by Sai Maa’s Master Teachers.

Sai Maa Lakshmi Devi (she goes by Sai Maa) in 2004 brought Ananda Jyotir Diksha to the West to help participants find Divine Light, which comes in different forms to everyone, she said.
