Poly receives high rankings

U.S. News and World Report has named Cal Poly one of the best public-master’s universities in the west for the 14th consecutive year. Overall, Cal Poly took seventh place in the Best in West category.

The only other two California colleges that ranked higher than Cal Poly on the list were Loyola Marymount University at fifth place and Santa Clara University at second.

University to pay more with new SLO Transit contract

Rest assured that the next parking ticket placed on your windshield goes to a great cause. The city of San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly negotiated another five-year contract to ensure that Cal Poly students can ride SLO Transit buses.

Cindy Campbell, associate director of the University Police Department, said students are able to ride for free because of money collected from citation fines.

Jamaican vocalist Buju Banton performs at Downtown Brew

Buju Banton, with his deep Jamaican vocals, performs tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Downtown Brewing Company, located at 1119 Garden St. in San Luis Obispo.

Buju Banton (aka Gargamel) grew up as Mark Myrie near Kingston, Jamaica and broke into the music scene when he was only 13 years old.

Poly men's soccer team routs SJSU, 3-0

The Cal Poly men’s soccer team dominated San Jose State 3-0 Tuesday night at the Sports Complex to improve to 3-3-4 on the season.

The team is changing under first-year head coach Paul Holocher, who was head coach at UC Santa Cruz from 1999-2005. He left the Banana Slugs with an NCAA Division II Championship appearance in 2004 and a record of 109-24-7.

Poly Canyon Village

Cal Poly is no longer just a college campus; by August 2008, it will have its own village. Poly Canyon Village housing development is planned for sophomores and will operate as its own community. It will feature retail stores, eateries, a recreation center, an Olympic-sized pool and many other everyday commodities dorm students don’t always have a chance to enjoy.
